The BBC announced that it will be making a “new drama based on Grand Theft Auto” on BBC Two as part of their “Make it Digital” campaign.
The campaign plans to give away mini-computers to eleven year olds across the UK in hopes to increase digital skills among young people.
“Just as we did with the BBC Micro in the 1980s, we want to inspire the digital visionaries of the future. Only the BBC can bring partners together to attempt something this ambitious, this important to Britain’s future on the world stage.” said Tony Hall, the director-general of the Make it Digital initiative.
Along with the micro computers, The BBC will be launching a season of what they call “coding-bases programmes and activities.” The Grand Theft Auto show will be placed among these programs.
There are no details regarding the content or nature of the show, although it can be assumed that the show will be rendered in a game engine, much like Red Dead Redemption: The Man from Blackwater – a half hour short film produced by Rockstar that aired on FOX.
