Mortal Kombat X: How to Play Kung Lao

Sharp dresser. See what we did there?!

Hat Trick

Recommended Videos

This Kung Lao variation is perfect for those looking for a bit of misdirection. As if having a bladed hat wasn’t enough, Kung Lao now possesses the ability to place and retrieve it at will. Toss your hat, continue to fight your opponent, and then when they’ve forgotten all about it, call it back right into their spine.

Spin: Down, Forward, Square

Dive Kick: (Air), Down, Circle

Teleport: Down, Up

Hat Throw: Back, Forward, Triangle

Hat Trap: Down, Forward, Triangle

Forward Low Hat Trap: Down, Forward, Triangle, Down

Tempest

The only thing better than a sharp offense is a sharp defense. Tempest grants Kung Lao the ability to use wind and his hat as a shield. Send Kung Lao’s bladed headwear into a tornado around him, then assault your opponents as they try to avoid being cut.

Tornado: Down, Forward, Square

Dive Kick: (Air), Down, Circle

Teleport: Down, Up

Hat Toss: Back, Forward, Triangle

Hat Spin: Down, Back, Square

Buzz Saw

This particular variation turns Kung Lao into a carpenter of sorts. Except he’s not cutting wood. Instead, he uses his hat as a buzz saw to cut apart his opponents. Similar to hat trick, he strategically places his hat down to use in attacks. Perfect against those who like to dance around too much.

Spin: Down, Forward, Square

Dive Kick: (Air), Down, Circle

Teleport: Down, Up

Hat Grinder: Back, Forward, Triangle

Upward Grinder: Down, Forward, Triangle

Low Grinder: Down, Back, Triangle

X-Ray and Finishers

Fatalities:

  1. (Close-range) Down, Forward, Down, Back, Circle
  2. (Close-range) Down, Forward, Down, Back, Square

Brutalities:

  1. Down, Forward + Triangle

X-Ray (L2+R2 when meter is full)

Kung Lao’s X-Ray attack starts with him throwing his hat at his enemies’ heads. It’s a ranged attack so it allows a bit of leeway when it comes time to pull it off. Catch them off guard in order to split their skull. Can easily be ducked under.
