CD Projekt Red Denies Rumors That It’s Being Bought out by EA

Everyone relax!

Fans of CD Projekt RED were given cause for concern when a rumor started to go around stating that CD Projekt RED was in talks with EA about being bought out. Don’t get us wrong, we’ve had some great times with EA games such as Dragon Age and Mass Effect, but CD Projekt RED is a very different beast to Electronic Arts.

The news first gained traction when DSOGaming reported the news that an employee of CD Projekt RED had told them that the company was in talks with EA regarding a takeover. The employee provided a payslip as way of proving their affiliation with CD Projekt RED and gave the following statement:

“I’m employee of CDProjekt Red and I have some bad news to share with you. Our management is probably talking with Electronic Arts about potential take over. Electronic Arts representatives are currently visiting our studio and meeting with top management. We are not going to release any game soon, so for sure it’s not about any publishing deal, so the only possible reason for EA guys being here is that they want to buy us.”

It seems that this rumor is absolutely false and has been debunked by several of the higher ups at the company. The studio’s Community Lead Marcin Momot denied the rumor, saying on Twitter: “Just bumped into Marcin Iwiński – it was new to him. I guess the “informer” has better insight than the @CDPROJEKTRED founder. :)”

As if that wasn’t enough, CD Projekt’s Chief Executive Adam Kicinski posted the following on the studio’s forum.

“Usually we don’t comment on rumours, but it’s time to deny the one about takeover because it spread too far. In the name of the board, I would like to state: No, we are not in any talks about the sale of CD PROJEKT RED or GOG. Also, the document verifying the identity/credentials of the source is not real.”
