Ubisoft Does Good, Makes Rainbow Six Siege DLC Free

FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

It’s a very common thing for additional multiplayer maps to be added onto games as DLC, usually for $10-15. Halo 5 is planning on making their multiplayer maps free as consolation for the Master Chief Collection, and Ubisoft is following in their footsteps with Rainbow Six Siege by making the DLC maps free. All of them. A company representative explained why they did this:

“At launch, Rainbow Six Siege will have 11 maps, playable both day or night, all using the full potential of our Real Blast destruction technology. In addition, all post-launch maps will be downloadable for free. We want players to stay with us for the long term and have ambitious post-launch plans that we will detail at a later stage.”

Exactly what those “post-launch plans” are are cryptic. Could it be new single player content, or something to do with the different countries’ Spec Ops units? Either way, it’s great that they’re doing this. Whether it’s because they realize that not everyone has the money for continuous DLC packs or are taking CD Projekt Red’s mentality to heart, hopefully this is a trend that gets some traction in the industry.

Rainbow Six Siege launches for the PS4, PC, and Xbox One on December 1.
