Drew Karpyshyn, Writer of several Bioware classic games like Mass Effect 2, Jade Empire, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, heads back to write for Bioware. On his blog’s regular bi-monthly update posts, his most recent post on September 19th revealed Karpyshyn’s near-finished book trilogy of Chaos Born (third book releases October 13th) opens up his return to game development. “A few years ago I left BioWare to focus on my Chaos Born novels, but now that the trilogy is finished, I’ve decided to come back into the fold,” Karpyshyn said.
While Mass Effect Andromeda is set for a late 2016 release, one could assume Karpyshyn will assist the writing staff on Andromeda on a new Bioware game entirely. Karpyshyn slashes those thoughts completely in his post. Karpyshyn will work on Star Wars: The Old Republic in what we could assume be a future expansion for the MMO that started in 2011.
“Working at BioWare was a challenging but very rewarding job, and it’s good to be back as part of the team. The thing I missed most about BioWare was the amazing people I got to work with, and luckily for me many of them are still there!
I suspect a lot of folks are going to wonder if this means BioWare is about to announce a new project tied to my return. The short answer: no. I originally came to the Austin studio many years ago to work on SWTOR and – at least for now – that’s what I’m focusing on again.”
Drew Karpyshyn’s body of work composes of over a decade of writing Bioware games, writing Star Wars novels, and writing novels about Bioware games and also Star Wars novels based on Bioware games. All of it amasses to 13 novels (including his Chaos Born trilogy) and nine games in over 15 years.
