Uncharted 4 Delay Was to Help Get the Ending Right

Big things are happening with Nathan Drake.

Recently Naughty Dog made the decision to push Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End out of fall 2015 and into March 2016. During an interview in the latest issue of OPM (via GamesRadar), co-director Neil Druckmann shed a bit more light on that difficult decision.

According to Druckmann the team has something very special in mind for the ending of Uncharted 4, something that the team required a little more time to get right.

“Even when I’m describing the ending, it’s a pretty… Well, I guess this is a little bit of a spoil… Nah, I’m not going to say it! But there is something that happens that requires quite a bit of work for what we want it to do,” Druckmann said. “And again, we would have had to reduce that scope and reduce that ambition to meet that [original] deadline” He continues saying that he knew the decision to delay the game would upset many fans, but it was a decision in the best interest of the overall quality of the experience.

Druckmann continued saying, “It was going to disappoint [fans] to push this thing back. But this is the last chapter for Nathan Drake, so let’s give ourselves as much time as possible and go all-out for this series.”

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will officially launch March 18, exclusively on the PlayStation 4. Fans will have a couple things to tide themselves over in the meantime though. Remastered versions of the previous games are coming in The Nathan Drake Collection, which will release on PS4 October 9. The collection will also include access to the Uncharted 4 multiplayer beta, starting in December. What do you think Uncharted 4’s ending could have in store for us?
