When people think about virtual reality, they tend to think of exploring strange worlds, being chased by Alien, or smiling uncontrollably as you take in some outer-space surroundings. But this Valve employee thought of a better way to utilize the tech.
The “room-scale” tech of the HTC Vive has opened up a whole new area of virtual reality to explore. By scaling your surroundings and allowing your to move around your room, the possibilities of virtual reality are endless. This Valve Software employee decided he’d be the first one to propose to his girlfriend using the tech.
The bride-to-be had been told she would be checking out a couple demos for the upcoming tech, still rumored to be coming out at the end of 2015. However when she got into the testing room at Valve’s headquarters and jumped into the virtual world, she noticed something rather strange hovering towards her.
Taken from her Facebook page, Kelly Tortorice explains the proposal from within the virtual world.
“So there I was, typical day…on a sunken ship deck; fixing robots; painting three-dimensional fire; walking through the Alps; and then suddenly, a virtual engagement ring started floating my way. Chandler told me to grab it. Then told me to take off my headset, and there he really was, on one knee, with a real ring. It wasn’t imaginary anymore.”
Meanwhile, Murch (her now fiance) had walked toward her holding one of the trackable HTC Vive wand controllers. This was what Kelly had seen as the ring floating toward her in the air. Smooth Murch, super smooth!
All of us here at Twinfinite would like to congratulate the couple on their engagement and also for having one of the coolest wedding proposals we’ve heard of. For all of you interested, the HTC Vive’s launch window is still said to be the end of 2015. If you’ve got a special someone you’ve been thinking about popping the question to for a while, you now know what you’ve got to top!
Will you be picking up an HTC Vive when it (hopefully releases) at the end of 2015? How would you propose to that special someone in virtual reality? Let us know in the comments below.
