Metal Gear Online is now available for prospective Big Bosses to test their mettle against others vying for the same title. Utilizing all of the amazing gameplay found in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom PainMGO pits players against one another in various modes that will require different skills and strategies in order to achieve victory. It’s the merging of the awesomeness that is Metal Gear Solid and the frantic nature of multiplayer shooters.

One of the fun game modes you’ll get to experience in Metal Gear Online is Comm Control. Just like the Cloak and Dagger game mode, players will be split into an attacking team and a defending team. The aim of the attackers is simple: capture and control three communication link points. Your goal is to complete a comm download within a time limit, and capturing comm links will help to speed this up. Once you’ve completed the download, the attacking team wins.

On the other hand, if you’re on the defending team, your job is to make sure the attackers don’t complete the download within the time limit given. Even if they do manage to capture all three links, if the download isn’t successful, the defenders will take the win. Defenders will also be able to capture any comm links they’ve lost to the attackers.

Read on for some tips on how to improve your chances of success for both attackers and defenders.

Comm Control in Metal Gear Online plays out like a regular zone control mode. As an attacker, your first priority should be to capture all of the comm links as soon as the match starts. Remember, you only have a few minutes to complete a comm download, and capturing links will drastically speed up the download rate, so this should be your primary objective.

From my experience, a good strategy is to split up in groups of three (assuming you’re in a team of six), and go for the two comm links that are closest to you. This is because the defenders are likely to camp out at all three comm links as soon as the match starts. Sticking together in safe numbers gives you a better chance of taking out any potential campers and surviving long enough to actually capture the comm link.

After taking over all three comm links, your next objective would be to keep pressure on the enemy until your download is complete. Your team will probably be scattered by the enemy at this point, so you’ll want to keep moving from one zone to another, making sure to take back any comm links the defenders might have recaptured.

Remember that Comm Control awards the most points for capturing comm links, so while eliminating enemies does help to make your progress a little easier, your top priority should always be to capture the comm links. In a situation where two or all three of the comm links have been recaptured by the defenders, always make your way to the zone that’s furthest away from the enemy. Low resistance will allow you to take it back fairly easily, and will at least keep the download going.

At the start of the match, if you have enough people on your team, you’ll want to spread out evenly and have people guarding each of the three comm links. Remember that attackers will need to stay within range of a link for a period of time before they can capture it, giving you the perfect opportunity to take them out before they even start the download.

The key to being a good defender is trying to ensure that the attackers don’t even get a chance to capture any of the comm links and start the download right at the start of the match. Your goal, therefore, would be to try to kill the clock and waste as much of the attackers’ time as possible.

Of course, it’s highly unlikely that you’ll be able to go through the entire match without having the attackers capture at least one comm link. Don’t panic, though; things will only start to get dicey if the attackers manage to grab at least two of them. Once they’ve captured their first comm link, it’s usually not a good idea to rush in guns blazing, as the attackers will have likely regrouped and be in a better position to take you out.

Instead, consider continuing to camp out at your current position and eliminate the attackers only when they enter your area. You can also try taking them out with non-lethal means, and leave them incapacitated on the field so they won’t be able to respawn immediately. This will at least buy you a little bit of time to retake the comm link they just captured.

Unlike the attackers, the defenders’ main priority here is to eliminate the enemy as soon as you see them, and take back comm links when it’s safe to do so. If there are turrets lying around the comm areas, make sure to use them and keep the attackers away.
