PewDiePie is looking to expand his YouTube empire even further with a new series to be featured on YouTube’s upcoming subscription service, YouTube Red. The YouTube Original, dubbed Scare PewDiePie, will be a half-reality, half-prank show filled with “thrills, chills and laughter.”
The creator and executive producers of The Walking Dead are teaming up with Maker Studios to create horrifying situations based on PewDiePie’s favorite games. Then they’re going to drop him right into these fright zones and record the chaos sure to follow.
PewDie is also set to make a good chunk of change from the series, as Chief Business Officer Robert Kyncl said during today’s announcement event that the “vast majority” of subscription revenue will be shared with the video creators, split according to viewership.
YouTube Red will become available October 28, offering a Google Play Music account and ad-free YouTube access for $9.99 per month. Subscribers will also be able to download videos and watch them offline, or listen to them in the background while using other applications on mobile devices.
The announced YouTube Originals lineup also includes a “dark and comedic” CollegeHumor project and Laser Team, a comedy space adventure movie from the Rooster Teeth studio. So far, 10 original projects are listed, with more planned for the upcoming year.
