It would seem that Ubisoft had a lot more in store for players than they initially let on, especially when it comes to playable protagonists. When it was announced that Assassin’s Creed Syndicate would have two playable protagonists fans rejoiced, the fervor increased when it was revealed that one of the two would be a female. This was a big deal after all of the issues surrounding AC Unity and its “animation complications.” But, the developers weren’t being exactly honest when they said you would have one male protagonist and one female protagonist.

It turns out there is another playable assassin in Syndicate, and it happens to be another female. Lydia Frye, granddaughter to Jacob (the more brutish of the twins), is an assassin in London during World War I. Players will be able to complete missions on behalf of none other than Winston Churchill as they serve as his dagger in the night. Hunting down spies and toppling the enemy’s information network is the focus of these handful of missions that also include opportunities to shoot enemy fighters out of the sky.

To access this Frye descendant, players will need to find the rift to WWI London which is located on The Thames, on the eastern end of the map. Entering will take players to the new time period as Juno (yeah she’s back) informs them of the new world. Completing missions will cause Juno to reappear several times to inform players of the creation of humanity and other interesting tidbits that may have been a bit confusing to long standing fans.

Lydia plays much like a cross between Jacob and Evie, able to withstand punishment while dishing out the hurt just like here dear old grandpa, but also quick and agile just like her great aunt Evie. This quick glimpse into a future generation of assassins, one that has to face the same threats while also dealing with even newer technological threats is an interesting one and it proves to be yet another high point in the game.

What do you think about this inclusion of a whole series of sidequests set in a very different London? One that is under attack by not only the Templars, but by other nations and is in desperate need of a savior. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
