It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for, Gran Turismo is finally making its way to the PlayStation 4, though not in the form you may have expected.
Gran Turismo Sport is harboring all of the ambitions that Polyphony has for the future of racing games. Of course the graphics, physics, and audio have all been improved since Gran Turismo 6 due to the power of the PlayStation 4, but Gran Turismo Sport will also put an emphasis on competitive racing. During the Paris Games Week briefing, Kazunori Yamauchi detailed there would be two flagship FIA Championships running throughout the year for players to test their skills.
The first of these championships is the nations cup where a player will represent his or her country. The other is the manufacturers cup in which the player will represent their favorite car manufacturer in the year round series. The winner of these series championships will be awarded their actual, real life prizes for winning these series, alongside FIA sanctioned race winners in Paris at the end of the season. Imagine standing next to Lewis Hamilton or Sebastian Vettel on the podium in Paris. Definitely an incentive for any big racing fans out there to put their skills to the test.
When questioned about when we may expect to get our hands on Gran Turismo Sport, Yamauchi replied stating that “Open beta testing will begin in early 2016.” That’s good enough for us Yamauchi.
Before rounding off this section of PlayStation’s media briefing, Yamauchi also mentioned that when testing Gran Turismo Sport with PlayStation VR, it was “a natural experience”. This definitely sounds promising for the future of racing games on PlayStation 4. Check out the trailer below.
